About The Belly

Broadly speaking, I like idioms because they are peculiar locutions. Specifically, I chose “belly up” because it could be read several different ways; on its own, it could imply the end of a long career (i.e., In May of 2009, her career went belly up.) or this derivation could signify an eager and assertive approach to this social medium.

Since I spend a gross amount of time these days contemplating my navel, it makes sense that my blog would address a few of the things I find hard to stomach (you’ll find these postings under “What’s Eating Me”). But constant belly-aching about other people’s half-baked ideas isn’t really my cup of tea either (and besides, Bush is out of office so these postings aren’t a piece of cake anymore).

Julia Child said that human life is about enjoying things; and on this we agree: “It’s fun to get together and have something good to eat at least once a day.” So to make the blog palatable to pessimists and optimists alike, I aim to pair despair with something good to eat (see “What I’m Eating”).

When I’m not writing this blog, I’m contributing to What’sTheSoup.net—the food industry’s premier soup site and “ultimate convenience for every cube dweller, student, tourist or soup connoisseur in search of a good bowl,” according to co-founder Heather Cathcart. I also will work for food freelance as a copyblogger, writer and editor (culinary topics or otherwise); for more information, please visit my Web site and drop me an email.

Feedback (even better, a linkback) is always welcome; you can make comments specific to a posting through the blog or email me directly. If you’d like notification of new posts via Twitter, please click that big blue bird on the front page (or here); I’d be honored that you took interest.
